Teams' Registration for IIUM Debate Open

Hi all,


We would like to apologise for the slight mistake in the form for team's registration.

As the tournament does not apply any institution's cap, we have edited the form to allow anyone to register as many teams as they want. So you can just type in a number for the teams youre registering.

For those who have already registered, but are planning to send more, just register again the addition to the number of teams you want to add to the original registration.

E.g : an institution that has registered four teams, but are planning to send twelve instead;you can register again for 8 teams.

We will send an email to confirm the spots that your institution has registered on 25th of august 2011 so that you can proceed with the payment for those teams.

As for institutions that need official invitation letter, kindly email us at iiumdebateopen@gmail.com the name of the institution, address and name of officer we need to address the letter to. We will be providing the letter as soon as possible once we obtain all the information.

Other than that, feel free to invite anyone to join the event, be it to debate, judge or just to observe.

IIUM Debate Open 2011

Hi Everyone!

We are pleased to announce to you that IIUM Debate Open has returned again this year.

Only with better hospitality, great food and great Adj core.

We are looking for a team cap of 80 teams for the tournament.
No team cap per institution, and we allow composite teams.

But since its an open tournament, we will be having a strict policy of first come, first serve basis.

Details of the tournament are:-

Date : 16th - 18th September 2011
Place : Kulliyah of Engineering, IIUM
Rule : British Parliamentary with N=1 rule
Registration Fee : RM120 / person (excluding accommodation)

The registration phase begins from 15th August 2011 until 30th August 2011.

We're Excited!

8 days to go. And we are all excited to have you come for the IIUM Debate Open next weekend.

As of today, we've got almost all the payments in. A few haven't setteled their payments. SO we hope for those who haven't, Please do as we are looking ta have a smooth running tournament.

WE all wouldn't want crappy food for lunch and dinner now do we? :)

Also, for teams that haven't submitted all the details that we require, please do, so that we can make registration on the day as smooth as possible and as fast as possible as we're looking to ensure minimal delays if not, None at all.

As mentioned before, we have a very very good judging pool that is here to ensure that the quality of the tournament is not short of the very best we can have.

We've invited about 20 very good judges and they come from the Ex-UiTM, Ex-IIUM, Ex-UPM, Ex-MMU, Ex-UM Alumni among others who are independant and have been involved in debates for the past 5-15 years.

END of the "Registration & Payment" Period

Hello again!

The Registration and Payment Period for International Islamic University Malaysia's Debate Open (IIUM Debate Open) has been officially closed.

For teams that have not completed their payments, please be aware of the chance of you being bumped out of the list as we have a long waiting list that has mostly completed their registration and payments, and are just waiting for spots.

We advise those who have not completed their payments to do so by the end of tomorrow's working day - 29th of July 2010.

For teams who have completed your payments, BRAVO and Good Job to you and we are looking forward to having you here at our tournament come August 13th, next month.

Also, please ensure that all details we require, have been sent to us. Most importantly, keep us updated if there are any changes in the order of teams and adjudicators.

We're excited to have reached this far and we're excited to have you all come to our tournament. We will continue to update all of you regarding the tournament over the next 2 weeks.

Lastly, we are proud to inform all of you that we have hit the 90 team mark for the tournament and we still have more wanting to participate, so if you have yet to register and you're bumped out of the list, then we hope to see you there at the IIUM Debate Open non the less, as spectators.

Extension of Payment Period

Greetings fellow debaters,

With one day before the closing date of the registration, we gladly inform you that we have reached and gone past the 60 team cap.

However, due to demands from institutions for us to increase the team cap for the tournament, IIUM Debate Open is now a tournament with a team cap of 80 teams, but only 4 teams per institution may break, just like before.

With an extra 20 spots up for grab, the hosting university has selected a few institutions of which we believe to have a large pool of new debaters. But of course to ensure fairness is still kept going in our tournament, we ensure that the 20 teams that will be filling up the extension of our team cap to be non-breaking teams.

This is to ensure that more new debaters will gain experience in the tournament; without risking the competitiveness among teams that are eligible to break.

Also to the teams that have registered/ reserved spots,
Please continue to email us and update us should you :-

*have not submitted the names of the participants from your institution
*have not completed details required by us (i.e IC number, contact number, accommodation and lunch)
*have not submit the names of the adjudicators
*have not made payments of the tournament.

We will send an confirmation e-mail confirming your spots after the payment is done.

Please contact us directly via phone or via email should you have any problem with regards to the tournament.

Also, we have postponed the last day of payment to next Wednesday, the 28th of July. All teams are advised to complete the process of payment before then.

Payments Part III

Hi again,

Our registration is closing very soon. The timer on the top right of the page says that very clearly. We'd like to remind all teams that have registered to complete the payments as we are looking to open up the slots if teams fail to pay on time.

If you have any problems on making sure payments are completed before the closing date, please e-mail us and tell us what the problem is and give us a date that we can expect the payments to be made.

And for those who find it difficult in finding a scanner, technology has made life easier. Use your camera on your phone if you have one.

-Snap a CLEAR picture of your receipt.
-Upload it to your e-mail
-Send it in to our official e-mail address

And don't forget to bring the receipt on the day of registration. This is to ensure that should there be a complication in tracing your money, you can say, "Here is the receipt, SUCKERS".

Payments Part II

Greetings debaters,

As you may see on the right side of this blog; there is a counter that indicates the days left for both closing date of registration and also to the tournament.

Kindly be reminded for those who have not registered for the tournament to do so before the closing date; as we have only 20 spots left for grab.

And we are still looking forward to emails from institutions who have reserved spots but yet to complete the registration details such as :-
  • The number of teams the institution is sending
  • The number of judges the institution is sending
  • The names of the debaters and judges
  • Contact number and IC numbers of both debaters and judges
  • Mode of payment (Cash, Cheque or Invoice)
  • Whether you will be needing accommodation (and the choice of package)
  • Whether you will be needing lunch
So kindly update us on the list so we could complete the registration for your institutions.

Prior to this post,

We would like to inform institutions that will be paying via invoice; to notify us as soon as possible.
This is to ensure that we can get the invoice sent to your institution before the deadline, and to also make sure that your institution's registration process would be completed.
For this invoice, we will be needing the number of participants that will be participating in this tournament, i.e :-

2 teams - 4 debaters and 2 judges. (RM80 x 6)
With/Without accommodation. (depending on the charge for your accommodation choice)

This is for us to prepare the invoice accordingly.

Official Invitation Letter

Greetings fellow debaters!

It is already 3rd of July. Just a reminder that for those who have yet to register; that you have exactly 20 days from the deadline to do this. We are looking forward for your registrations and come make this a fun competitive tournament :)

With regards to official invitation letter,
We believe it is only procedure for our institution to send a formal invitation to your respective institution in ensuring your registration in our tournament flows smoothly.

Of course this does not apply to all the universities and colleges,
However we would like to notify that should your institution request for an official invitation letter before approving your participation to our tournament, kindly request for it by sending us an email at iiumdebateopen@gmail.com.

Also include the name/position of the person we are referring to and the institution name so we can prepare the invitation letter accordingly and email it to you.

Refreshing Your Memory.

Hi!

Below are the tournament details, for those who still haven't been able to get access to it -

Date :
13th - 15th August 2010 (Friday - Sunday)
Venue : Kulliyah of Economics and
Management Sciences, IIUM
Registration time : 12noon - 2.00pm (
13th August 2010)
Registration fees : RM 80 per person (without accommodation)
Team Cap : 60 teams for this tournament (4 teams per institution)


Here are some interesting facts to note:-

* Composite teams are allowed to register, participate and will be able to break if they qualify. ( n=1 rule applies)

* We are providing dinner (iftar) for all three days (As we are observing Ramadhan) and lunch for the non-muslims.

* There will be Cash prizes of RM1,000 (1st Place), RM800 (2nd Place), RM700 (3rd place), RM500 (4th Place) and RM150 (Best Speaker Finals)

* We will try to ensure a good pool adjudicatorsthroughout the tournament. Special invites have been sent out to the Malaysian Alumni's to be a part of this tournament. Some of whom are:- Mr. Fareez Zahir (IIUM Alumni), Azrul Izzam (IIUM), Mr.Iqbal Hafiedz (MIDP), Mr.
Yunus (UPM), Mr Faisal Moideen (Shooklin&Bok) and Mr. Muhammad Faiz Arshad (UiTM Alumni)

Should anyone require accommodation, the registration fee will be RM80 + (either option A or B)

Reminder

Dear debaters,

So far, we have quite a number of institutions already emailing us to register. We are still looking forward to the institutions that have not yet do so.

Be reminded also that the closing date for registration is 23rd of July, which is a long way to go, but we also have limited spots to fill.

And since we forgot to include in the previous post about the amount of payment, the payment per participant (regardless if you are adjudicator or debater) would be RM 80.

Should you like to stay in the accommodation provided, here are the charges :-

Hence, the rego fees to be paid to secure your spots would be RM80 with an addition of payment for hostel; depending on how many days you are planning to stay there.

The Boring Stuff.

Hi!!, we're back with more details for all of you.

Payments for the teams registered can be made by either cash, cheque or invoice.
Here are the steps to finalize and conclude your teams' payments.

  1. Go to the nearest "Bank Mualamat" and deposit the cash or cheque to the IIUM account ; 1407-000-000-4716.

  2. Once you have banked in the cheque or cash, please "SCAN" the bank-in slip and e-mail it to our official e-mail address; iiumdebateopen@gmail.com , along with the name on the institution & number of teams and adjudicators paid for.

  3. After that, we shall send you a confirmation letter, once we have received the money and team details(*please refer to the first post)

  4. With the confirmation letter, you will have confirmed your spot and we'll be looking forward to seeing you at IIUM Debate Open come August 13th. Please bring along the confirmation letter or a copy of it at least, when you come for "on-the-day-registration". This is to ensure registration runs smoothly.
For Institutions and teams that are dealing with payments via invoice, we will send an invoice to your respective institutions via fax, for that we will need the numbers to fax and follow up on the fax being received by your respective finance departments. This mode of payments only apply to local institutions of Malaysia.
  1. Please get a copy of the "paid-receipt" of the invoice sent to your institutions' finance department.

  2. We will still need you to e-mail a scanned copy to us with the team details, only then will you receive a confirmation letter from us regarding your participation.

  3. Also, please bring the invoice or a copy of it for 'on-the-day-registration".
The last date for payments to be made is 23rd of July 2010.

Now that we're done with the payment update. We also need to know which teams require accommodation. This is important for international teams, we don't want you stranded outside campus. For teams that have already e-mailed us all your details, except your accommodation status, please get back to us as soon as possible. For teams that have not e-mailed us details, please ensure you don't forget to include your accommodation details.

And last but not least, This is a reminder to all participants. TEAMS MUST REGISTER A JUDGE WITH EACH TEAM, eg-4 teams = 4 judges. If you do not comply to this rule, you will NOT BE A BREAKING TEAM.

Registration for IIUM Debate Open

Hello and welcome to the IIUM Debate Open Blog, below you will find the registration process and details.

Registration will be opened at 10 am, This coming Tuesday, 22nd of June 2010. E-mails should start coming from 10 am onwards, and we will book spots based on first come first serve basis, based on the time and date the e-mail was received.

How do you register?

Please include :
  1. Number of Teams/spots wanted (n1)
  2. Full Name of all Debaters and Judges
  3. IC Number of all Debaters and Judges
  4. Contact Numbers for all being sent
  5. Contact number of person in charge (The person we(IIUM) should contact)
  6. Mode of payment (Via Cheque or Cash, and when we would be expecting payment)
  7. Request for lunch (for Non-Muslims and those who may need it for medical reasons)
  8. Please let us know if you have special dietary requirements.
Also, kindly note that the final date for payment and finalizing your teams' registration would be on the 23rd of July 2010. Failure to settle payment by the closing date may effect the participation of your teams.

SPOTS will be opened up to allow others in, ie- the teams on the waiting list.

Once Payment is done by your institution, we will send a confirmation letter/e-mail to you(the person in charge) to make certain of your participation.

For Institutions that KNOW that they'll be making payments late, please ensure that you have a Official Guarantee letter/LO from your institution ensuring that payment will be made.
